Happy first day of March! I hope your Mid-winter Break was restful and relaxing and this enews finds you well. The start of March triggers a very busy time at Kenmore Middle School. The stretch of the year between Mid-winter Break and Spring Break is one of the longest stretches without a break and while this is very positive for consistency and learning, it can also feel long for both students and staff. Our staff are working hard in preparation for this stretch, but it is good, as parents, that we check in periodically with our kids to make sure they are doing well and keeping up during this time. It is also important to be monitoring your child's progress through ParentVue as this time of year provides many opportunities for assignments and projects.
March is the start of our registration season, which means we ask our students to start thinking about and planning for next year. For our 8th graders, the high school counselors presented registration information in your students' Science classes yesterday and will return in a couple of weeks to make sure all the paperwork is done correctly and your students are registered, online, for high school next year. For our current 6th and 7th graders, our wonderful KMS counselors will start to meet with your students in the coming week to start our KMS registration process. Please check in with your kids about their thinking for next year and their registration for classes. More detailed information is available on our website under the counselors page or please reach out to your students counselor for more information. If you happen to be a parent of an incoming 6th grader next year, know that information will be coming your way soon about our elementary student registration for next year as well. It is hard to believe we are already starting to think about next year, very exciting!
I wish you all a wonderful start to March and as we work our way into the Spring. It is truly an exciting time of year to be working with your students.

Library News
NEW BOOKS ARE HERE!
Our New Book Shelf, located in the fiction section of our library, is currently FULL! We get new books in regularly, and they are always on display on the New Book shelf for at least a month. Just a reminder, new books are purchased based on careful research by your current librarian (me!), and I always consider student recommendations, peer suggestions, and well-reviewed books from professional school library publications. Perhaps encourage your student to check out the New Book shelf the next time they are in the library!
Your student needs a new immunization to enter 7th grade. In order to start school in September, your child must have a Tdap shot (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis).
Don't wait, schedule it now! If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse, mmayer@nsd.org
COVID NEWS:
PLEASE CONTACT NURSE M. MAYER AT 425-408-6406 OR MMAYER@NSD.ORG IF YOU HAVE A STUDENT THAT IS COVID POSITIVE.
The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students of COVID-19 cases and potential outbreaks. This week, there were a total of 0 confirmed cases at our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings. If your child is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, please keep them home and test for COVID19. Families can order free COVID-19 tests from the state. Together, we can keep our schools healthy and safe.
Attendance
COVID is still amongst us…
While this is unusual to see in the attendance section, we are urging families to follow WA State protocol and test your student for covid if they exhibit symptoms. I get daily calls from parents reporting their kid as “sick”. Please refer to the new guidelines: What to do if you have COVID-19 symptoms
Remember, the first bell rings at 7:55am and students can be here as early as 7:30am. To excuse a late arrival or full day absence, you may either:
*Call the attendance hotline, 425-408-6410.
*Email: KMSattendance@nsd.org.
*Send your student into the office with a note excusing the absence.
*Escort your student into the office.

Volunteer Opportunities
Hello Kenmore Colt Parents! Looking for a way to help at school and make students happy? We are looking for some parent volunteers to help supervise the basketball court area on the north side of the gym during lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 11:15am - 12:45pm. We could also use some volunteers Tuesday mornings from 7:30am – 8:00am.
Get a friend and come out together and volunteer. You do need to fill out volunteer paperwork and we will train you on the important points of supervising our middle school students. Our students and staff will be very appreciative as you help them have some more space to burn some energy at lunch. Email Ms. Hernandez at jhernandez@nsd.org.
